Clear Your Clutter Day 2013

MyWay Mobile Storage Sponsors Clear Your Clutter Day 2013

To celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 27, Hartford residents took part in the third annual Clear Your Clutter Day at Harford Community College. Coordinated by Harford Community College and Sappari Solutions, a Harford County professional organizing company, the event encouraged residents to drop off household items to clear their clutter in an environmentally responsible fashion.

Many local organizations offered their services at the event: recycling companies, junk removal specialists, Goodwill organizations and on-site document shredding. Some of the items residents dropped off included; scrap metals, appliances, TVs, cardboard boxes, clothing, toys, household goods, cell phones, eye glasses, tools, monitors and other assorted electronics. Many unique items were unloaded, including fencing swords, a skunk remote and an airplane exhaust pipe. However, the strangest item prize went to a resident who brought a turn-of-the-century fireplace.

According to Nettie Owens, owner of Sappari Solutions and event coordinator for Clear Your Clutter Day, 385 vehicles attended this year’s event. In all, the event collected over 7,000 pounds of paper to be shredded, four tons of TVs and electronics, and one and a half 50-foot trailers filled with household goods from 325 contributors to Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake.

Owens said, “MyWay Mobile Storage supported the 2013 Clear Your Clutter Day event at Harford Community College by providing a mobile unit. They were very easy to work with, prompt and courteous. Steve had a unit delivered the night before the event, which we used as our ‘command center’ for the day of the event. All the volunteers were able to easily recognize the unit as our meeting point and we were able to store items away from wind and rain, which we thankfully had none of! The unit housed our first aid kit, volunteer check in, various supplies, coats, and more! It was great and more spacious than I expected. Thank you for helping us make Clear Your Clutter Day 2013 a success!”

All sponsorship proceeds were donated to local non-profit Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, which also collected more than $1,800 in cash donations at the event.
