MyWay Mobile Storage to Sponsor 5th Annual Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department 5K
The Carnegie Police department, led by Chief Jeff C. Harbin, will be holding the 5th Annual Carnegie VFD 5K Race/Walk on April 28, 2012. MyWay Mobile Storage, the leading provider of moving and storage solutions, is proud to be a sponsor of the event. The 5K Race/Walk will start at 8 a.m. and conclude around noon. Chief Harbin’s efforts, along with numerous volunteers’ hard work, have raised more than $37,000 for the Carnegie VFD over the last four years.
“We are well on our way toward breaking the $50,000 mark this year,” states Chief Harbin. “We couldn’t do it without the generous support of our sponsors and the hundreds of participants that have enjoyed our past events.” Participants can register the morning of the race if not yet registered.
The 5K Race/Walk is Chief Harbin’s second-to-last event before retiring from the Carnegie Police Department. Harbin states that he wants to make his last two races “better than ever.” With the support of friends, family and businesses such as MyWay Mobile Storage, this event continues its rapid growth with over 500 participants expected this Saturday.
The event starts early with coffee provided by MyWay Mobile Storage’s “coffee wagon,” as called by Chief Harbin. The race will end with a raffle of door prizes. Participants will enjoy music, pre- and post-race massages, refreshments of bagels, bananas, apples and energy drinks, and a newly designed T-shirt. Mayor Jack Kobistek will present the trophy medals for each of the numerous categories at the conclusion of the 5K.
The Carnegie VFD 5K Race/Walk has become a community event with a wide range of participants from serious runners tuning up for the Pittsburgh Marathon, to families walking dogs and pushing strollers. Pre-Registration forms are available at the Borough Building and various businesses in Carnegie. You may also visit the Borough website at www.carnegieborough.com to download a registration form, the cost to participate is $20.00. Walk-up registration is available on the day of the race/walk starting at 7:00 AM.
